Near-real-time Monitoring of Global Carbon Emissions
Date: 02 MAR 2023 (Thursday)
Time: 15:30-17:00 (HKT)
Venue: Function Room, 11F, The Jockey Club Tower, Centennial Campus, HKU
On the basis of near-real-time activity data, we estimate the global daily, sector-specific, country-level and 1*1 degree CO2 emissions since 2019. These estimates provide a picture of the daily, weekly, and seasonal dynamics of CO2 emissions before and after the COVID-19 pandemic and the economic downturn that it has triggered. The research outcomes result in international research initiative: Carbon Monitor (https://carbonmonitor.org/).

Prof. Zhu Liu is an Associate Professor and a Principle Investigator at Department of Earth System Science, Tsinghua University. Prof. Zhu Liu initiated and led the Carbon Monitor project that provides first ever global daily CO2 emission dataset (https://carbonmonitor.org/). He authored more than 100 academic publications (See Google citation page), including 30+ papers in Nature’s and Science’s sister journals. He has an h-index of 70 (Google citations) with total citations more than 22,000 times. He is the awardee of the highly citied researcher by Web of Science, the Qiushi Scholar and the 35 Innovators Under 35 by MIT Technology Review.
