Professor Shunlin Liang, head of the Department of Geography, recently hosted the Workshop on Development of Global Land Surface Satellite Products in the Jockey Club Tower, HKU, from May 12 to 14, 2023. This event discussed the progress, challenges, and solutions in developing global land surface satellite products, with a major focus on developing the global satellite products of essential environmental variables in specifically support of the 2030 UN sustainable development goals (SDGs). The workshop has brought together over 50 prominent land remote sensing specialists who engaged in insightful discussions on various technical aspects of satellite development, such as data processing, inversion algorithms, and product validation. This workshop promoted the sustainable development of the earth’s resources by providing accurate and reliable data products on carbon, energy, and water-related variables.
