Brief summary:

Climate change and urbanization represent two of the most significant human influences on the planet, posing threats to global biodiversity and ecosystems. It is crucial to understand, predict, and mitigate the biological impacts of both climate change and urbanization collectively, as their increasing importance shapes human society. In a recent publication by international researchers, including those from HKU, researchers developed an integrated framework for understanding and predicting the joint effects of climate change and urbanization on ecology, evolution and their eco-evolutionary interactions. This study analyzed five examples, propose hypotheses for predicting biodiversity and its interaction with socio-cultural systems, and discuss creating resilient landscapes for addressing both biological and societal concerns.
